5. Saloum - A beautiful, stylish, and thoughtful Senegalese action western folk horror.

4. Bodies Bodies Bodies - Scream for the Zoomers, this was so much fun with a killer script that's very "of the moment".

3. The Northman - A true viking epic that would fit in next to Beowulf or any classic tale. The most metal movie of the year!

2. Everything, Everywhere, All At Once - Just thinking about the 'laundry and taxes' line makes me tear up.

Okay, #FilmMastodon, let's talk about my fave #2022films.

10. The Outwaters - Indie madness that eschews coherence for dread. Not for everyone.

9. Pearl - Welcome back, Ti West! I think a lot about Mia Goth's final shot over the end credits.

8. Nope - A movie that you know you'll get something new from every time you rewatch.

7. Bullet Train - Just a whole bunch of fun.

6. Skinamarink - The most terrifying movie I've seen in years, nothing is shown and yet it is awful like a nightmare.

So how did 2022 compare previous years in regard to great movies?
Well, let's look at my 8+ ratings, as I feel that in a good comparison of the better-than-just-good films.

As you can see, movies (or/and me?) have been in a slump since 2020. Though 2022 might take off a bit from the previous years, when I finally get around to watching the rest of my 2022 to-watch list. Fingers crossed for a 10 hiding in there somewhere.
