Winch truck build update: It’s alive!!
You’ll have to forgive my one-handed driving as I tried to record with my phone. I’ve already rolled it doing donuts in my driveway 😂
I did a couple donuts at the end of the video without rolling it. The suspension works great and you can totally see the front differential work while driving.
I’m pretty impressed and it’s been worth the work. 369 hours of printing for 314 parts. Still have to install the winch.

Winch truck update # 2 for the day:
Axles and gearbox installed. The wheels are only pressed on the shafts to hold it up. It’s remarkably heavy for being mostly plastic. Still waiting on some electronics that I forgot to order. Hopefully operational within the next couple of weeks.
Winch truck build update:
Both axles assembled. (Banana for scale)
Rear axle is locked. Front axle has a differential.
Maybe they’ll get installed today? Gotta ride my bike first.

About 202 hours of printing and 157 parts printed. More assembly photos to come
I’ve printed enough parts to begin assembly on the #3dsets winch truck. I’m at about 110 hours of printing and 105 total parts printed, with a lot more to go.
Still, this thing is going to be crazy. It only just occurred to me that the tires are 4.5 inch (115mm) diameter! 😳
Some photos of the chassis assembly. Banana for scale.
I’m approaching being done #3dprinting about 1/3 of the parts for the winch truck. I know it’s going to be big, but sometimes the size of individual components just really makes me 😳 at how big it’s going to be assembled. Take these suspension links and just the front fenders alone…
In the past couple weeks I had a lot of fun #3dprinting and assembling the #3dsets "Model 12: Bamboo 4×4 Pickup".
My current goal is to #remotecontrol it, using my Desktop PC using a live camera feed and a XBox Controller.
To do so I'm using a #raspberrypi in the model. I'm already able to transfer a live video stream and control the motor and steering.
Up next I'll have to design and print a nice enclosure for all the electronics and a camera mount.
