I’ve only confronted a security guard once before, never again. I asked, ‘Why are you following me?’ They folded their arms across their chest and said, ‘Just doing my job’ and glared at me.

I was so flustered I couldn’t think what to say. I turned to leave and they followed so closely behind me if I’d stopped they would’ve walked right into me.

Horribly intimidating but it happens to a lot of us.

When I speak to parents of Autistic children they are desperate for their child to get on a linear pathway to success / employment & fulfilment.

I try to break it to them gently that even the most joyful and supported #Autistic person probably won't do 'linear'; our path is always a winding one, by choice.

And there is nothing wrong with that!

The way you describe hesitating at the door of the pub, I have felt that way and only wish I’d known that others did too.
And the ‘I haven’t been to any work-do’s or parties all year, I HAVE to go to this one’ and being really uncomfortable and wishing you weren’t there…💗

'You Don't Look Autistic At All' by Bianca Toeps is one of the books I recommend for those seeking more about their own #AutisticLife and for non-Autistics to learn about #Autism.

As you say, there is nothing wrong with reading autobiographies of #ActuallyAutistic people. After a lifetime of confusion, it is such a relief to read others #Autistic experience, to feel seen, to have their words resonate so strongly with us!

@theautisticcoach Never swore at all until my early 20’s, now I swear a lot (there’s a lot to be frustrated with! 😤) but not in front of anyone!
Am trying to swear less, but when you are out of spoons, you have chronic pain, your ‘to do’ list is ridiculous, no-one is helping you, CPTSD, ‘ableism’ etc. something has to pop, and if it’s me swearing, then.. 🤷‍♀️

I didn't mention it but we're all #ADHD too so we have #DoomPiles and #ExecutiveDysfunction

I think of it as muddling along as best we can, #NoJudgment and trying to live an #UnmaskedAutistic life at home, even if we can't do it outside the home!

@BlinkPopShift @actuallyautistic I'm being honest, it's really hard. None of us has the #spoons to do what we need to do outside the home, then get all the chores done, cook a meal, and feel like we have the energy to enjoy the evening!

My #recharge time is watching TV or reading a book, not doing chores. But having a family means someone has to do it..
