'Andor' wasn't just the best SWs series capable of meeting the best SW film, it was the best series of the year. It was masterful, & the real test will be s02 against s01 & so on. Continued comparison to 'The Mandalorian' seems deeply unfair. Whilst they exist in the same universe, they are series crafted for different audiences & different reasons.

'Mando' is high-end family series. It's very well made, it's experimented with tech, it's sharp episodic storytelling, it brings all the joy of puppetry, costuming, & magic of the SW universe that hooked us all in the 80s. It has fantastic performances.

'Andor' is none of those things. Instead, it's masterful, mature content. It eschews the puppetry etc world building for time spent in in-depth character study. It's long-form narrative that's kept the VFX minimal or traditional to allow focus to remain where the story wants it, on characters. Its action pieces are tighter with often fewer moving parts, it's going in for precision over spectacle. & it could have been as boring as fuck! The fact it isn't, much in the way 'Mando' could have simply been ridiculous, is because of the undoubted skill of the writers, cast of performers & crew. Pedro Pascal & his comrades in the Helmet, with the puppeteers, who make me invested in that little green puppet without using facial expression is arguably the sign of greater craftspeople than Diego Luna's immaculate turn as Andor.
