Here are a few of my takeaways from a day at the #Newhouse Research Symposium at #SyracuseUniversity (USA):

- Although streaming services are airing shows with contemporary representations, there’s a lack of sustained support (Raiana de Carvalho’s textual analysis of Netflix’s #Gentefied).
- Trends show that terrorism-related news coverage vilifies Muslim defendants (Nausheen Husain & students).
- Race/ethnicity & emotions of female political candidates impact voter support (Martina Santia).

We recently watched #Gentefied on Netflix (yes, we watch a lot of Netflix..!) and can totally recommend. It takes a couple of episodes to get going and then it's just brilliant. Great commentary on the intersections of race, class, gender, queerness, and the impacts of gentrification on poor communities of colour.
