@jwgoerlich think of the economy of work that creats where infosec peeps who dont wanna go to prison just start copying regulatory bodies on emails to internal it folks for not patching just trying to avoid jail time and show that they made an attempt to raise the issue.

Think of the resignations "hi, protecting you from business risk has become too risky for me" what a statement.

And what a #Glassof0J this could make!

We should stop talking about our lives and how we spend our time as being "productive" or not. Thats late stage capitalism making you think your life is a business.

Instead think of your life and how you spend your time as being "fulfilling."

If youre reading a book to "feel productive":

1. Unless youre a writer, student, editor, etc, reading a book is not productive

2. Reading a book should be fulfilling.

Fulfilling in living your values, fulfilling in taking care of your wellbeing, fulfilling in you over all sense of being connected to the universe. All of it.

Even when doing #InfoSec work, we should not merely be productive. We should fulfill out ethical values, our values which drive us to want to protect lives via security and privacy, values which drive us to help each other, etc.

Theres also a limit as to how much something can fulfill us and how much of that thing is fulfilling in one go. Burn out is real. The paradox of infosec being our passion yet doing it so much with high intensity makes it to where we feel the opposite of fulfilled regardless of how productive we are.
