In other news, after growing since July and spending £30 on soil and pots, another £10 on pot bases so my kitchen doesn’t get flooded, £40 on a small greenhouse for the area outside that doesn’t get the light I’ve FINALLY grown a chilli!

Of course I'd get knocked on my ass by a mystery bug in the first days of my fall break. Stomach cramps, nausea, loss of appetite, joint pain & headaches...at least it's not COVID?! 🙃

The good news is being bed-bound has given me the [forced] opportunity to work on my manuscript-in-progress / dissertation, and I'm finishing a short story based on Levi-Strauss's shamanistic complex---how belief in magic makes it real. Who said structural anthropology and spooky fiction don't mix?

My dissertation proposal was approved! My haunted collection of stories, ghost interviews & confessions is officially going to be the thing I do to earn my PhD!

The short title is "Texan Gothic" and I can't wait to showcase a sample as the chapbook, *Santa Muerte Santa Muerte: I Was Here Release Me releasing in from Tram Editions February 2023!!

I've been working on an article this week and I've found myself reflecting on all the recent conferences (mostly online) that have been so inspirational, and looking forward to a few upcoming ones in the next few months. I know it’s a long way off but after attending in 2019 and not being able to attend this year, I have my heart set on it and wondering who else might be there.
