@fenriswitch I’m afraid I have no legal expertise so I can’t really advise you on this. Perhaps other can help or even 😁 (Boosts welcome to expand coverage of Fediverse)

So / has decided to block links to other major social media networks (Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Post and Nostr) and aggregators (linktr.ee and lnk.bio). Presumably to stem the mass exodus. This strikes me as incredibly poorly thought out.

First problem, Twitter doesn’t exist in a vacuum, the competing social media networks can simply respond in kind. If was to block links to Twitter, that would be far more detrimental to Twitter than Meta. As Meta has many (many) more users and offers many more services than just asynchronous following. Meta would also not be seen as the aggressor, rather whatever they do will be viewed as a response to absurd conduct by Twitter.

Second problem, this just encourages users to leave. It dares users to make their final tweet a link to their other social media profiles.

Third problem, cross-site discoverability has long been a mainstay of social media. This would again seem to discourage participation in Twitter. If individuals/organizations are effectively prohibited from building their cross-the-web brand on Twitter, why waste time posting to/engaging on Twitter?

Forth problem, what about all the existing users with links? Are users grandfathered in, or will Twitter mass suspend a significant percentage of their non-bot userbase?

Fifth problem, Twitter is not blocking Gab nor Parler. Format-wise (i.e. microblog) they are very close to Twitter. While the disparity is unusual, I’m not convinced that it’s politically motivated (since Truth Social IS blocked). Maybe because Elon doesn’t see those two are real competitors? What’s stopping someone from creating a Gab/Parler account that only serves as a link aggregator to their other social media sites?

Lastly, I’ll let the debate over possible legal issues with this. Though I’m confident there will be lots of lawyers racking up the hours this holiday.

Congrats , you’ve once again shot yourself in the foot. You’re found a way to both further encourage the exodus from Twitter, while simultaneously further discouraging new signups.

Did you know that Missouri honors medical cannabis cards from other states? If you have a legit card in your home state it should be good in Missouri, although with the passage of Amendment 3 on Tuesday any person 21 or older can possess up to 3 ounces of cannabis for their personal use.
