I use #Linux as the main OS on my computers, but also use Windows 10 on one.
For the sole reason to download the #ebooks I buy.
I play the occasional Windows-only game as well, but those I can do without.
I can't do without ebooks.
I really, really wish there was an open standard for getting any ebook, with or without #drm, onto any device without having to rely on a single piece of software from one company.

Wir kennen das längst aus Streaming-Portalen: Bestimmte Videos oder Musiktitel sind mal verfügbar, dann scheinbar völlig verschwunden, tauchen woanders auf.Je älter das Werk, desto höher die Wahrscheinlichkeit es nirgends mehr zu finden, wenn es kein Top-Titel seiner Zeit war. Bei Büchern kann das auch so sein.

The recent #enshittification of #Amazon #Kindle (no backup and sideloading of your books) spoiled my weekend.

Trying #Kodo first, since I can reinstate pre-orders for imminent masterworks from @mjohnharrison and #NickHarkaway.

#AdobeDigitalEditions and #Calibre work well together on PC. Even better, loading stuff into the Kodi iOS app is way easier than Kindle. (I read mostly on the phone.) So I can start the new issue of @InterzoneMag while waiting for Royal Mail. Thanks Amazon!

Whoa, this worked. I have successfully installed a high number of applications, carefully assessed my Linux Mint version and viewed test charts to see what #AdobeDigitalEditions version to install, adjusted the WINEARCH to 32-bit, and i have now TWO (ah ah ah ahh) #InternetLibrary books on my #LinuxMint laptop! I am drunk with power! #Winetricks #Wine #LogOffMotherYoureDrunk

Once again, I threw caution and reading comprehension to the wind and borrowed #Encrypted #Daisy copies of desired #ebooks from #InternetLibrary. (I run #Linux, which means no #AdobeDigitalEditions, necessary to getting reading value from my loan.)
If I manage to unlock and install temporary readable copies, drinks are on me! Must be local and aged 19 or over to apply for this time-limited special offer.

En général les #MenottesNumériques d’#Adobe peuvent être brisées via #AdobeDigitalEditions puis le plugin #DeDRM de #Calibre.

PS : comme #OGM pour désigner une « chimère fonctionnelle brevetée », le terme #DRM est fallacieux, car pouvant aussi bien désigner la gestion automatisée du droit des licences libres. Cf. @Calimaq à 19min sur https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6DvH2EN9uY
