Our #AeroGarden is going nuts! Well, more specifically, it's going lettuce and basil!
It's just 33 days since we started the #lettuce from #seed and we've already harvested several lunches from it.
The #basil meanwhile is a couple of weeks older, 49 days since seeding, and it's given us a ton of #pesto and another growing bag of leaves in the freezer!
This is the first time we've planted our own seeds instead of using the pre-seeded pods and it's worked great!

I don't want new seedlings to struggle for light.. I wonder if there's some way I can lift them up higher to be closer to the light so the other plants don't have to get too much?

Last weekend I mounted an @adafruit VL6180X distance sensor underneath the grow platform. It uses a laser to measure how far away the surface of the water is, and then I subtract that from the height to determine how full the tank is.
I previously tried this with a RCWL-9620 ultrasonic distance sensor, however condensation would start to build up on the speaker grills and produce inaccurate readings. Hopefully the laser will be more accurate in this environment!
I've also started to use the built-in status LED to indicate when it's time to add nutrients and when the water level is low.

Planning on starting with a simple #kratky setup. I don't really want lots of 5-gal buckets, so I'm keeping an eye out for re-use opportunities of containers around the house.
The tough bit may be substrate. I have a bunch of aerogarden pod things, but suggestions welcome for substrate I could put in my own #3dprinted holders!
