Today was #Amiberry's turn to get some love:
- Added Virtual Keyboard support (thanks Erik!)
- Merged the recent rewrite of the serial port support, based on libserialport now.
- Made more improvements to the Virtual Keyboard implementation, and fixed a few bugs
New release should be coming soon, after the testing phase is complete!
I think it's time for a quick update:
#Amiberry: re-implemented serial port support, so now it works for null-modem capable games between 2 Amiberry instances! Sadly not for Amiberry to Amiga, but then again neither does WinUAE (bug reported about that). This will be part of the next release.
#Amidon: Trying to see if we can fix/compile HTMLview for AmigaOS3, as that will help a lot. Not having much luck so far, but it takes time.
It took me half a day, which is ridiculous (blame Apple), but I got that old Mac Mini rebuilt with an SSD drive, Big Sur (even though it's not supported, it's a 2011 model) and XCode (which was a pain in itself, since I had to get an older version) ready to go.
This is the build machine for #Amiberry releases, so it was important to get it up-to-date.
I will be at #AmigaIreland this weekend (the event starts on Friday), in case anyone wants to meet-up and have a chat. #Amidon will be on display, as well as the "Next Gen" version of #Amiberry, running on a #SteamDeck :)

[EMU] Rilasciato Amiberry v5.5.1

Hotfix update of #Amiberry, bringing it up to v5.5.1. Mostly due to a RetroPie-specific issue, but got a few minor improvements included also:

I promised I'll get it out before the end of the year, so #Amiberry v5.5 is released today.
:rpi: Running #RetroPie or #AmiBerry get quite hot too (I set fan to only turn on when absolutely necessary ).
Of course Marx 🐱 sleeps with the head on these too.
Also, I can’t use my tablet & mouse 🤷🏻♂️ #cats #retrocomputing

Unofficial weekend goal: publish the first ever "toot" from #Amidon.
Running on an #Amiga of course.
Then running on #Amiberry, on the #SteamDeck, just for the extra meta factor.

I finally got a first version of #Amiberry packaged as a #flatpak today.
And I used it to install it on the #SteamDeck of course. :)
It still needs some refinement before it's submitted to #flathub for everyone to use, but the hardest part is behind us now.

I'm working on creating a flatpak installer for #Amiberry - does anyone want to help with creating an SVG icon for it?
I have the logo and all the elements in various formats, but I think it would look best if an icon is designed "properly", instead of just copying the same logo.
I'd love this to look nice in KDE and Gnome :)
I bet you didn't expect the #SteamDeck could do this! It can, with #Amiberry and #GreaseWeazle, boot a real floppy disk with a real floppy drive connected.
The future is here!

Now that #Amiberry is running on #SteamDeck, I wonder how hard it would be to use the #Steam front-end for all those #Amiga games? Each entry could launch #Amiberry with the right parameters and auto-run the game, similar to what #EmulationStation does in #RetroPie. Certainly doable by hand, but ideally we'd want to script this (there are thousands of games). And then scraping any images for them would be a sweet bonus with sugar on top.

Does it run #Workbench, you say? Of course it does! #Amiberry running #AmigaOS 3.2.1, on the #SteamDeck - here I'm using a backup of my A4000 drives.
Regarding games and demos, everything I throw at it runs full speed without breaking a sweat (CPU usage around 50%). And I haven't even implemented JIT on it yet, so there's room for more cool stuff (portable Lightwave rendering machine?)

Thanks to @kickoffworld for the suggestion, here's the first video of #Amiberry running on #SteamDeck - Launching it from #Steam, then running Jim Power (WHDLoad) as a test.
Fixed it! And it was actually a bug in #Amiberry code, sitting there for quite a while. It would only manifest if there were multiple Recording devices available (the #SteamDeck has 3), so it was missed for so long, until now.
Woke up today with the excitement of having made progress and the will to continue. Only #Amiberry would no longer start on the #SteamDeck - did I dream it all last night?
After careful investigation, I found what was different: yesterday, I had an external monitor connected, which also presented itself as an extra audio device. Today, I didn't have that connected, and #Amiberry crashed during the audio devices enumeration on startup.
At least I know where to look now...
It took me HOURS to figure out what needed to be done, but I finally managed to get #Amiberry running on the #SteamDeck - and launch it from inside #Steam itself. Photos tomorrow, it's too dark, too late and I'm tired. But I just had to share the good news before I go to sleep (this is going to be so awesome!)
