I can't sleep because since 2008 major shipping companies have been running their freighters slower and slower to save on gas, to the point where sometimes they'll take over 100 days to cross the Pacific.

For context, I'm pretty sure in the 1500's Magellan sailed across the Pacific in about 98 days.

We're going so slow to save fuel that we're actually going slower than the ships that don't use fuel.
