I shared my favorite conspiracy theory that the real estate is worth more than the going concern, even more than the price Sapporo paid for it.
And then I looked it up. Sure enough, it fucking is (at least according to some people), which could certainly explain their rush to give up on the brewery.
But can somebody please tell me *why* in a city with an absolute *glut* of office space, agents are salivating over converting those parcels to office use?! and why "AI companies" have been deemed the saviors of the SF CRE market?!!
If Anchor does close (and I have all my fingers crossed for the union acquiring the brewery), the superior and most valuable use for those two projects is a residential development. Especially with recent developments on adjacent blocks successfully beating back the Boosters opposition in recent years.

The first time I was here was just about a week after their announcement that theyâre closing down. Nearly bottom of the keg of my California Common. Time to compare with Anchor Steam I bought in the States in June.
Mine on the left; Steam on the right.
Less clarity in mine as I get to the bottom. Less carbonation. More malty and darker. The rye has subdued with time.
Anchor Steam nowadays just doesnât taste the way I remember from the Bay Area in the 90s and early 00s. But I had it on draught most of the time back then.
Iâm happy with mine, but hope they survive
