Sunday afternoon #vcvrack noodling. My first time sending midi signals live via my keyboard into vcv rack; chords split into an arpeggiator, then more signals are sent into modulating VCOs that are tied into various parameter inputs for the delays, choruses, flangers, etc. A Mutable Marbles runs the hihats. Main voice is an Erica Synths Wavetable VCO.

Bleepy bloopy. :)

The #AnnArborBleepBloopCollective meetup at the library was fun, and we were then also invited to check out the North Coast Modular Collective's neighborhood shindig. So cool to see #eurorack setups playing coherent music. It was a good day.

Monday evening noodling in #VcvRack; a MusicThing Modular Turing Machine drives two oscillator voices lightly modulated, and also drives some simple sample drum machines for a basic generative rhythm. Fun stuff! I can definitely see the appeal of the Turing Machine now.

The #AnnArborBleepBloopCollective meetup was a rousing success. We not only managed to sync up hardware, but also #bitwig and #vcvrack for an impromptu jam session. The #AnnArborBleepBloopCollective was yesterday and as a surprise, one of the attendees let me borrow his Behringer Neutron semi-modular analog synthesizer. After a bit of clueless prodding I got sound!

This is way more satisfying than making sounds on a computer. I am finding lately that the prospect of doing creative work at a computer after being on computers all day is daunting. This is letting me truly "play" in the childlike wonder sense again.

It's been a mentally exhausting week for some reason, but it's starting (?) to look up.

Work projects wrapping up and looking forward to a complete shift in Q2 (Java and Scala, I'm mildly terrified).

Saturday, March 25th, from 2pm to 4pm, at the downtown Ann Arbor District Library "Freespace" room, is the first meeting of the #AnnArborBleepBloopCollective !

If you are interested in #eurorack , #modularsynth , or especially #vcvrack , you should come on out! The group is designed for newbies!

We will likely spend the first meeting going over the (very) basic concepts of modular synthesis, and also will walk us through getting VCV Rack up and running.

Happy Sunday. Spent some time noodling around in VCVRack. This is one of the first times I've been able to coax something musical out of it rather than have the output collapse into noise. Using randomly generated patterns for chords for the lead and bass, and then some additional probability triggers for the hihat samples.

Very basic, but progress! This helps me anchor further studies.

I'm thinking a monthly meetup, no more than 2 hrs. Initially focused on exploring basic #modularsynth concepts , with the eventual goal of us being able to collaborate and make bleep bloops together.

#AnnArborBleepBloopCollective meeting spot update: struck out with AADL, excepting possibly the Freespace room downtown, which I will need to investigate. "Venue by 4m" (still a dumb name) doesn't look like it has anything for me either. BTW, the AADL podcasting studio downtown sounds neat, if anyone's looking to get an A/V project off the ground.

The hunt continues. If anyone has any leads or suggestions, I'm all ears. Looking for a soundproof room that can fit 10, with wifi/power.
