Tonight is the 5th night of #Hanukkah. Pls join me in recalling the 500 years of secrecy and denial forced on the #Anusim in order to survive and keep the flame of #Judaism alive, no matter how dim. From the prayers tonight: The spirit of those who were forced to convert, but practiced in secret; died because they were #Jews; or who were expelled from #Spain and #Portugal, remains alive in the bright lights of the Hanukkah candles - more than 500 years later.

I have other interests besides cooking, I swear. Anyway, I read somewhere that you could take refrigerator dinner roll dough and turn them into donuts. They were right. The bigs ones are filled with my homemade blueberry jam. The small ones are coated in cinnamon and sugar. I’m approaching all of the treats my Catholic mother made around Christmas with an all-new appreciation since I discovered that she & I descend from #Anusim.
