"in around two-thirds of the 39 cases analysed, the characteristics of ASD or intellectual disabilities were the “sole or major” cause of suffering, which were found to be severe enough to approve assisted dying.

In eight of the 39 cases, this unbearable suffering was only related to the learning disability or autism."

A ‘Good Death’?
Oddly, the word that comes to mind is Euthanasia. The word originates from the Greek "eu-thanatos", good death. It started out with an essay written in 1870 by a Samuel Williams in which he suggested that

"in all cases of hopeless and painful illness, the medical attendant was to administer chloroform to destroy consciousness and p

Exploring Laws: Rethinking , Agency, and Interdependence. In Canada, in 35.7% of cases, patients believed that they were a “burden on family, friends or caregivers”. isn't a liberal or progressive policy, but simply a further commodification of human beings- judging way people are "worth" in a capitalist society

🔴 Opinion - Assisted Dying Bill: we need to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly deaths

Wrote another personal piece regarding assisted dying, and the lack of conversations around death itself.

A French citizens' convention supports active assistance in dying using different models.

The 184 randomly selected members of the French citizens' convention on assisted dying believe that the current legal framework must evolve. They put 81 proposals on the table, including assisted suicide and euthanasia.

The convention was to provide the linchpin for a "national debate on assisted dying" launched in September.

I think, i have made it abundantly clear, that i am usually a huge fan of the death panel podcast. But the recent patron-episode left me puzzled. For one of the first times i strongly disagree with their stance.

In the podcast Cassandra Kislenko and Beatrice Adler-Bolton discuss MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying - what a horrible name, i concur) and Canadian austerity. Adler-Bolton keeps saying what a complex issue assisted suicide represents, yet they end up only describing cases where it went horribly wrong. Adler-Bolton also says, that they are not talking about a conspiracy theory, yet in the subtext of the episode they hint strongly that with this program the Canadian government is basically trying to kill off disabled people.

While i see their general point, when other options are still available, they should be evaluated and explored. At the same time i can still think of so many cases, where has to be a valid, non-stigmatized and easily available option, that allows people to leave on their own accord and with dignity.

Because what is the alternative? Should they commit suicide through iffy means and butcher themselves?

My life has been a living hell because of and i can only wish that it would be easier to receive help, not necessarily from the state, to end this soon. Looking at the state of the world, with the climate and migration crisis, rampant sexism, racism and the rise of fascism, does not exactly help me change my mind.

A lot of the disagreement i have might have to do with a path-goal-discussion. While i agree, that the goal has to be that the state SHOULD take care of the disabled and chronically ill, this is just not the case now. That late stage neoliberal and racialized capitalism is racist, ableist, sexist, anti-queer? Granted! And all this must be changed. But it would require a system change and it does not look like this will happen any time soon, or does it?

Meanwhile people suffer in their life-situations to the point of it being so fucking unbearable, that they contemplate jumping off the fucking bridges.

So for now, we have to make assisted suicide an option, fight against the stigma and most certainly not deliver talking points to the christian ultra-right, who is also strongly opposed to this.

As an anarchist i am of course not thinking of state but of communal,
solutions. Here in so-called Switzerland there are non-profit organizations who offer assisted suicide in certain, very limited situations (mostly old age). It's also fucking expensive. That is kind of okayish, but i can think of much better models.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts, but please keep it civil. Concern trolling and sea lioning gets blocked.

Good article on by Moderator of General Assembly, Iain Greenshields. The proposals before the should be concerning for everyone, whether they are religious or not. I hope there will be much more debate about this dangerous and illiberal proposal
