This haiku may not mean much for people who haven’t lived in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia), but for those that have the neon Skipping Girl Vinegar advertising sign is a familiar sight and one of the iconic symbols of the city.

I read @KarenWyld saying that there are unusually high number of dragonflies in South Australia and Victoria this summer
& I was reminded of this brief post (2min read) that I wrote about dragonflies a year or so ago:

~ Andrew Lansdown
This is one of my favourite Australian haiku.
~
A month or so ago I gave a talk at the #HaikuDownUnder online conference about Australian images in haiku poetry, and to illustrate the talk I created some images using the #Craiyon #AIArt image generator.
~
I used the prompt “#sumi-e” (Japanese ink painting) and the names of Australian plants and animals to create a series of Japanese style images of Australian subjects.
~
Andrew’s haiku was published in the #FirstAustralianHaikuAnthology.

~
It is about a short bushwalk I took in an area of #GreyBox forest at a place call #Eynesbury, about an hour drive west of #Naarm (#Melbourne, Australia), back in August 2020
~
* A haibun could be thought of as a short personal essay that includes a #haiku

I like to write “haibun”, a Japanese literary form that usually includes a haiku poem with a very short personal essay in prose.
If you’re interested to read an example here is one I wrote in October last year, about #TawnyFrogmouth:

Submit up to five of your best haiku and/or senryu.
The deadline for submissions is 1st December 2022.
More info on how to submit here: https://australianhaikusociety.org/2022/09/21/fourth-australian-haiku-anthology-call-for-submissions/
