Someday, I would like to hike this entire section in nice weather. Today, the clouds had lifted slightly, revealing some hazy views along the ridge crest.

Recently got back from #backpacking the #Rockwall Trail in #Kootenays NP. We didn’t manage to finish (co-backpacker got sick) but the part we did finish was breathtaking! Definitely returning to finish it sometime very soon.

What weight should one start #rucking?
Depending on one’s weight and body shape, most can handle 10-20 lbs dry weight which is approximately 5-9 kg in the beginning. It is better to start lighter and increase as needed.
Ruck weight is typically measured in pounds and notated with the # symbol.
In general it is recommended to stay below 33% of one’s bodyweight, since that is the threshold where health damage exponentially increases.

I just ordered a similar generic closed cell foam pad from Amazon for $2.99 (with free non-Prime shipping), which is all that the Z-Seat should cost.

My brain is incapable of processing this information. A Therm-a-Rest Z-Seat now sells for $33 USD on Amazon.
It is a piece of foam slightly more than a foot square. For thirty-three dollars. That's insane.

Ward knew from experience we'd be pretty wiped by the midpoint of our journey, and had a very special place in mind for us to camp and chill for two nights. We made this lake our home for a bit, and adventures unfolded. Felt great to cool our heals - much needed downtime.

Rain hadn’t been on the agenda when we set out a few days earlier, but sure enough - one day the skies went gray, thunder rolled through, and we found ourselves hiking in warm rain for a while. The reward was this - a spectacular but short-lived rainbow adjacent to the peak.

The 5th day #backpacking was the best. The greatest lakes and a downright pretty good valley made up the bulk of the day. Finished the day with a new view of another pretty good valley.

40 years ago Saturday: From Adams’ summit a trail called the Airline followed the long, barren ridgeline of Adams back down past the rocky knob called Mount Quincy Adams, passing a little to its west. Somewhere John Quincy Adams is wearing a tee shirt that reads, “I Was the Sixth President of the United States and All I Got Was This Lousy Minor Summit on My Dad’s Mountain.”

40 years ago Friday: After Eisenhower, the trail descended into a col before another stiff climb up Mount Franklin, the first 5000-footer of the day. The sky had cleared very nicely by the time I reached this peak.

The 4th day #backpacking the #TrinityAlpsWilderness did have some burn at the start, but mostly was a day of lakes and explorations. I stopped by one of the Forest's designated special places (for #geology) even!

40 years ago Friday: It was mostly cloudy in Crawford Notch at 12:30 when I set out on the #AppalachianTrail. A nice, stiff breeze was blowing, the air was fresh and dry, and the day was much cooler than the last few had been. As usual, that 12:30 start was considerably later than I wanted it to be.

40 years ago today: Took a day off the trail (my last). From 5/24/83: I awoke cold and clammy this morning and lay in my sleeping bag fascinated, watching tiny wisps of cloud swirl in through the gaping holes in the shelter’s wall above my head, drift leisurely across the ceiling, and slip out of the open side.
