SMMFH. A homeowner knows they have owls living in a tree. They cut down the tree and are SHOCKED to find babies in there at this time of the year when wildlife are having babies.

Went to check on the local owl family. Glad I was able to find them & they look healthy
1. barred owlet snoozing with their head on a branch
2. the siblings together
3. crow showed up to harass them
4. Mama was very close (chased the crow away)

Spring ushered in properly at our house last night with the hoohoo-hoo-HOO of a #BarredOwl in the forest behind us. Very exciting, my first time ever hearing an #owl. #bird

This lovely barred owl has become a regular visitor. She let me get a good picture while I filled the feeders. I suspect she was disappointed I didn't fill them with mice.

I went out on a wildlife rescue call yesterday, to help another barred owl who had flown into a car. Unfortunately, he had been hit again before I got there. I found him dead in the road. Seeing my owl friend was soothing after that.

I heard some very agitated #crows and went outside to see they'd been mobbing this #BarredOwl. It's been a warm - and hence icy - winter, which are often very bad for owls, who need to be able to punch through the snow to grab their prey. When the crust of the snow is too thick, they can't do that as easily. If you see a barred owl near your birdfeeder, they're likely picking off small birds and rodents drawn to the seeds. They also eat eggs, hence the crows' anxiety. #Birds #NewHampshire

Becky spotted this amazing barred owl, sleeping in the trees, and later, we saw what I believe is a leucistic* song sparrow. (A very rare sighting)

*Leucism - An animal condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales or cuticle, but not the eyes. Not albinism.
