Soooo... I've just started using Album Whale to create simple album lists. I could use rateyourmusic for this, but somehow I'm reluctant to share the link to my profile. For one thing, giving ratings to music comes hard to me and I treat the numbers more as a form of sorting and filtering. Anything above a certain level will go into the collective lists without a rating :) First up is the Best of 2023 in progress list https://albumwhale.com/jzfski/best-of-2023 #music #newmusic #bestof2023
Read my ★★★★★ review of Lizzy Bequin's "Their Human Vessel," a women's erotica "fated mate" dark science-fiction kinda-black-comedy but also legitimately hot romance novel. I had a LOT of fun writing this one, so if you only occasionally check out my reviews, make this one one of them. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5266790849

My first review of the year is Meg Baird's mostly instrumental "Ashes, Ashes," a song fit for January. #megbaird #dragcity #bestof2023 photo by Rachael Cassells #musicreview #songreview #bestnewmusic #newmusic https://www.instagram.com/p/CnVWPt9MwtG/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet

10) (tie) X/Pearl - cheating to get these both on here, but wow what a pair
Continuing my #horror #bestof2023
9) Speak No Evil - the most upsetting movie I saw this year; not a horror film until it is, and then holy shit, it really is
Continuing my #horror #bestof2023
8) Satan's Slaves 2: Communion - pop horror from Indonesia, but terrifically well-made and culturally distinct enough from Western films to hit on different notes and feel fresh
Continuing my #horror #bestof2023
7) Deadstream - next to The Menu and EEAaO, the most fun I had watching a movie this year
Continuing my #horror #bestof2023
6) The Black Phone - simple, almost rudimentary, but also elemental and riveting
Continuing my #horror #bestof2023
5) Barbarian - the surprise/shock part is oversold but this is really fun and good, with sneaky thematic depth
Continuing my #horror #bestof2023
4) Resurrection - seems like a thriller, then takes a positively bonkers turn starting with a mind-blowing extended Rebecca Hall monologue
Continuing my #horror #bestof2023
3) Nope - only gets better on reflection and rewatch
