My first trip to Tasmania is a 500km bike ride from Launceston to Hobart along the east coast. Three friends and I packed enough clothing and gear for the six day trip and are staying in the various towns along the way.
We've just finished day 3 in the lovely port town of St Helens and thoroughly enjoying the relatively independent travel, the exploration and adaptability required for a trip like this.
Tasmania's weather, infamously inclement, has been generous with cool, cosy days with low wind.
Tomorrow is on to Binencho and Coles Bay, riding along the coast, so we'll see what that brings...

fiona organized a birthday cheescake with candles 😍
while 150 people from the paris dakar race entered the campground and it feels like eating the cake in a motorcycle workshop. noise and smell of petrol driven vehicles. we feel very small and unseen with our minimal #bikelife setup between the high equipped trucks, cars and bikes.

we met Redouane at a gasoline station and we ate a tangine together. he offered us a place to sleep in his old barn.

- many picnic sites/tables
- vias verdes #bahntrassenradwege
- beautiful diverse landscapes
- many gravel roads
- a lot of gluten free products
- amazing sweets #cheescake
- car drivers respect cyclists
- nearly no traffic during the night
Contra:
- no public toilets, there is shit and waste everywhere
- cycling routes not signed or inexistent
- people are reserved (don't expect to meet new people)
- coasts are full of traffic
