A bit of an upgrade for my Moloko bar to
1) make horns longer (for “aero” position)
2) make the ends sturdier (so that bar tape not damaged when they touch the ground b/c of maintenace/crash)

Couldn't find anything fitting for bicycles; these are motorcycle bar ends made by Sato Racing.

~36mm of extra length.

I put a proper, more narrow, 68x103 bottom bracket on my fixie/singlespeed to straighten the chain line. Used to have 68x111.
Now, this is how the gap between the chain and the pump look like 🤏 😂
Will move it to the other side, I guess.

Put a pretty standard single speed chain on a single speed bike, and it rattles against the preinstalled chainring guard, because the chain is a bit too wide.

Built up my wheels last night with tires and rotors and got out for a ride at my local #mtb trails.

The wheels seem better–stiffer, more direct. Maybe that’s just me being suggestible, but they’re definitely no worse.

Learned about Gyros (AKA Detanglers) yesterday fixing bikes for kids. The rear brake cable splits, then pulls through a bearing so you can do bar spins without cables getting in the way. I didn’t have a BMX growing up so these are new to me, and super cool!

Discovered a broken spoke after I got back so I may have some #bikewrench content for everyone tomorrow

Bike Tools! I had the hardest time finding a tool storage solution that

1) Fit a hand pump, not just a Co2 inflator
2) Could be attached to a bike without a bag for a quick ride
3) Could also be thrown in a pannier for commuting or a longer trip

But this handly little "Tool Capsule" from amazon is just what I needed

Either I forgot to grease it when I installed it or Raleigh gave me bad advice and told me they already greased it when they hadn't. Bikes are dumb sometimes.

Not pictured, but when putting the bottom bracket and cranks back together they all got a liberal application of grease on the threads and everywhere else metal touches metal. This keeps out water and makes it easier to loosen the parts next time.

A general-purpose grease like Park Tools PPL-1 is a great cheap addition to your toolkit if you don't already have some

I'm happy with the generic torque wrench I got from amazon, but the one limitation it has compared to the fancy Park Tools model is that it only measures torque in one direction, and one side of the bottom bracket is left-hand-threaded (lefty tighty, if you will).

So side two is approximated right after I did side one. At least I can make sure I didn't undershoot by a bunch

I was also in luck that my local shop had the same bottom bracket in stock. It's not an expensive part but to get it properly installed you really need a torque wrench and a special adapter. Thanks to a gift card, I know own both 👨‍🔧

Luckily, the no-name power drill set I have came with 3 sizes of brass wire wheels. Never knew what these were for! Brass is a great cleaning tool here because it's softer than steel and wont damage the threads. Got 'er all shiny and clean.
