Today in 1991, the founding meeting of the Bloc Quebecois is held. The party is created when three Progressive Conservative MPs and two Liberal MPs leave their parties after the failure of the Meech Lake Accord.
Lucien Bouchard will lead the party into the 1993 election.

He began his political career in the National Assembly of Quebec in 2008, serving until 2014.
He became the leader of the Bloc Quebecois on Jan. 17, 2019 & was elected to Parliament on Oct. 21, 2019.
