Exciting times for #TheBOREDNet ahead...I just acquired the domain theborednet.net (no website yet, don't worry if you don't see anything), and I'm working on hosting and a site. We've been relying on Google Docs for our weekly swap net, and it's just become too ungainly.
I'll also be able to post photos and details of future µField Day events as well. I never expected µFD to become what it has, but it has, so let's roll with it :)

The BORED Net is having another µField Day this Saturday. I think all the locals here got the news, but just in case it's at Freedom Park in Camarillo from 1100 to 1500. #portablehamradio isn't just for warm sunny days...we should be ready for anything, and that means practice. (The weather looks like it won't actually be that bad either.)

After cancelling January due to mud, I've got a date and location for another µField Day this month. February 25th from 1100 to 1500 in the lot next to the RC car track at Camarillo Airport. Full announcements will go out in a week an all the local club mail lists.
(µFD ("Micro Field Day") is a monthly informal and friendly way to play around with portable ham radio. Open to all hams, from any club or area.

Nice short video about portable setup. I've found that one obstacle to operating in the field many people have is the belief that it's time consuming and requires special gear. It ain't so!

Today's µField Day in Ventura County was cancelled due to the site being closed due to mud, but otherwise it's a perfectly pleasant rainy day. It's amazing how much heavier it is not far to our north.
I'm looking for more site options for µFD, so we can continue operating portable even in rainy weather. If we don't practice in adverse conditions, we haven't really practiced. Stay safe and stay prepared.

In December, we held µFD at an amazing rental-holler if you want info on the site. Stuart Sheldon AG6Ag featured us on his YouTube channel. We had 13 stations set up that month.

Time for a sticky post on µField Day...
µFD is a monthly ad-hoc ham meeting I put on in Ventura County, open to all hams and clubs. Some months are sponsored by one of the local clubs, some are held in a local park.
It's a short 4 hour gathering to try stuff out and make sure that portable operation will be easy and familiar if you need it in a pinch. Most months we see 10-15 stations set up.

@VE3SKY To everyone in Ventura County and the area, the Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club will be having a Winter Field Day gathering in Thousand Oaks on the 28th.

And if you want a chance to test your setup before then, the BORED Net's monthly µField Day will be January 14th at Rancho Conejo-make sure all that stuff is working!

Considering January 14 or 15 for the next µField Day, this time back at our normal location at Rancho Potrero. I'm wondering if people prefer Saturdays or Sundays for these things.

Another fantastic µField Day in the books! A million thanks to Ryan KI6BTY for the use of his holiday rental for the event. If this had been ARRL FD, we would have had an 11A. But the real fun is hanging out with about 25 hams, people getting their very first HF QSOs, even a radio finding a new home.
Thanks to everyone who showed up-I can't describe how much I enjoy putting these events on. See you next month!

Live in or near Ventura County, and want to play with your portable ham setup with a friendly bunch of fellow hams? Or are you curious about what we do, and want to see for yourself?
The BORED Net controllers are holding µField Day again December 18th in Thousand Oaks from 1100 to 1500. This time in the lap of luxury in a private home, so I'm not putting the address in here. Contact keith@w6kme.org for details if you want to come by.
