The Kingswood Estate behind Sydenham Hill Station has a hidden gem. 'Bovril Castle' built over 200 years ago has been under conservation work for the past few years, and is offering free tours of the building.
its most famous owner was John Johnston who bought it in 1891 and added the stone facade and castle battlements that now make it so distinctive. It was Johnson who invented Bovril - hence its nickname.

___The #haggis!___
On this #BurnsNight we've had our vegan haggis, mashed tatties (potatoes) but no neeps (turnips), instead substituting swede and celeriac, carrots, spring green cabbage, green beans, cranberry jelly and a nice veggie stock gravy.
To break the spell I washed it down with a nice beefy #Bovril.
We have an ongoing debate at work about bovril. Some have no idea what it is, some think it will taste like drinking gravy. For me it's a great drink and played a huge part in my childhood as i travelled to watch Junior Football in Scotland. 2 hours in the cold, you needed that bovril, even if it was just to warm your hands. It's rapidly going up in price but a whole jar still costs less than most folk seem to spend on a takeaway coffee. #bovril
