One of the niftier pictures I took was while walking around near the river. I kept hearing this chirp above me and when I looked up, there was the brown-headed cowbird that would make a single chirp and completely fluff up his body and spread out his wings and tail. I have no idea what or why this display, but he looked cool!
Part of the ACDSee program I use is it maps out all the locations when photos have geodata. I like how it just shows I wandered all over kingdom come today.

The little hoppity-hop in slow motion. 😍

The little pointy-headed hop of the Brown-headed Cowbird chasing off competition is my new favorite bird move.

I've had several hanging-around this year. I don't know if that's normal or not. I never watch as closely as I have this year.

Dark visitor.
This brown headed cowbird was visiting my feeders yesterday. At the feeder he looked like just a shadow because of clouds. Although, I was pretty sure what the bird was, I was hoping for something new ... to me.
"Cowbirds are birds belonging to the genus Molothrus in the family Icteridae. They are of New World origin, and are obligate brood parasites, laying their eggs in the nests of other species. The genus was introduced by English naturalist William John Swainson in 1832 with the brown-headed cowbird ( Molothrus ater) as the type species." - wikipedia.org

Another ice storm today, but the spring migrants keep coming. Here's a very weather-battled Cowbird.
Let's hope the power lines stay put!

Look into my eye 👁🗨
Here is a really close look at a male brown headed cowbird. They are part of the family Icterid which includes blackbirds, grackles, and others. There have been several hanging around my yard lately.
"The Brown-headed Cowbird is a stocky blackbird with a fascinating approach to raising its young. Females forgo building nests and instead put all their energy into producing eggs, sometimes more than three dozen a summer. These they lay in the nests of other birds, abandoning their young to foster parents, usually at the expense of at least some of the host’s own chicks. Once confined to the open grasslands of middle North America, cowbirds have surged in numbers and range as humans built towns and cleared woods." - allaboutbirds.org

Brown-Headed Cowbird
I few of these birds were in the tree behind my wife's shop yesterday. It was fairly windy, and many birds just stuck to the trees. This is a male brown-headed cowbird, I posted a photo of a female several days ago.
"In winter, Brown-headed Cowbirds may join huge roosts with several blackbird species. One such mixed roost in Kentucky contained more than five million birds." - allaboutbirds.org

Brown Headed Cowbird.
This female brown-headed cowbird visited one of my hanging feeders yesterday. In this photograph, the bird retreated to the oak tree in my back yard. I'd already read a little bit about the infamous bird just by reading about other birds. The brown headed cow bird is sometimes mentioned.
