Another ngaro huruhuru (NZ native bee) seen in my garden π
I have a few patches of lawn that Iβve let grow really long, and these little yellow flowers* are a favourite of these tiny bees.
I also have planted wildflower pollinator blends, but I only ever see bumble bees and honey bees in those. In my garden these native bees seem to prefer a patch of lawn gone wild.

* similar but smaller than a dandelion flower, might be hawksbeard or catsear

Did you know Ngaro huruhuru is a burrowing bee? They burrow into bare, undisturbed soils in the ground or in clay banks. Theyβre solitary, gentle (donβt sting, non-aggressive), nesting alongside in communities of bees rather than hives, and need flowers close by to feed their lavae over summer. π π―
