This is interesting: "The Celestial Omnibus" short story by E.M. Forster (1912).

It really reminds me, in theme, tone, and treatment, of stories by Neil Gaiman, which is not something I expected from Forster (but of course, I'm absolutely no expert on Forster, though I've read several of his books).
Anyway, I enjoyed it, and it is interesting to wonder: if Gaiman were writing 100+ years ago, what would it look / sound like?
