One more circus post and then I'll go back to glass ... for a bit. In October, the Spire troupe and Oakland Prescott Circus Theatre came together for a weekend to share and create a collaborative show in two days. They had some acts already formed, but also created some combined acts. It was really neat to see the creative process and the sharing of space and ideas. It's another thing that I hope Kinetic Arts continues to do more of.

Continuing with circus ... in August Kinetic Arts organized a two day festival with workshops and solo performances each night. I was only able to get to the second night, but it was fantastic. It really felt like KA was connecting with the rest of the Bay Area circus community in new ways, bringing in new people, and I hope it becomes a yearly event. Here are some of the great acts.

Last spring we did the first (of hopefully many) studio photoshoots with the Spire troupe. It was only half planned, so we didn't have much to work with - a ratty off white backdrop and some white lights. As I was editing the test photos, I thought I'd try doing black and white, and with some work with the softness and grain I made them come out nicely. Next year I hope to have colored lights, but I really like how these look.

More #circus pictures from the past year - April/May saw the performances of the younger kids troupe. Their show was about exploring a cave and the scary creatures they found there. Getting good pictures of the younger ones can be hard as they haven't really learned how to hold a pose in their acts, but it's neat to see them and watch them grow into their circus bodies - several of them graduated to the Spire troupe this year.

Continuing my year looking back at my circus pictures - after the Spire show my friend Joey asked if I could photograph the Spectrum benefit variety show that he was producing. It was a quick afternoon and evening, but loads of fun, with proceeds going to Out Youth supporting transgender and nonbinary kids in Texas. It was so good to be there surrounded by queer performers having fun, knowing we were doing something good in the world.
