@nicemicro You're ignoring the projects that aren't maintained by a single soul.

But even the one-person projects are part of a _collectively owned_ whole, even when the project itself isn't. Distro maintainers package the thing, users report bugs, savvy people sometimes propose bug fixes, other projects make dependencies on this project, and this project liberally depends on many other projects. There's a spirit here that is silly to ignore.

I work at a worker cooperative, and it's not like we do absolutely everything together. Sometimes I just take a project and veto a lot of decisions. Until that becomes a problem (and I am mindful of it not becoming a problem), I do the project solo as a mini dictator.

I also don't want to get stuck on the definition of 'ownership'. Legally speaking, it's a copyright thing. But practically speaking, there is a lot of maintainership. Maybe a better term would be collective or distributed stewardship, but I don't want to get lost in the weeds there.

Looking back into I'm a little surprised you HAVE to have an to use the . I know there are some recurring platforms that don't require it. Making anoooother account is often a turnoff for people (myself included). On a somewhat related note, I've done some research into the organization. Thinkin about how action requires not a small amount of faith. You can't have the mindset of shiftily eyeing everybody else, triangulating where the wind is blowing so you can pick the winner. You have to say fuck the odds, show up, do your small part, and know that if enough people show up and do their small part then you win. It is the polar opposite of voting for somebody because they are electable or some other such circular nonsense.
