Being charitable, I haven't played it yet. Maybe it will become more clear once I start playing the game.
In the meantime, though, I find myself cludging together other playbooks to create what seems like a fairly standard character type.

I'm pretty stumped by this gap in playbook coverage -- to me, the master of disguise is such a staple of the genre that it feels unthinkable to have left it out.
Maybe the intent is that because it's so baked into the genre, everyone should get a shot at it regardless of playbook -- for the same reason there isn't a class with more romance-related moves -- but I haven't seen any evidence of that.
Very puzzling.

I was kind of surprised to find that a social-manipulation/disguise type of character doesn't feel very well-supported by Court of Blades. There is clearly a spy class -- called The Eye -- and while its description might seem to fit, its mechanical features are laser-focused on stealth and covert sabotage.
There is also a social manipulator class (The Key), but it is combined with the Mastermind, so while there are some social abilities it feels more focused on team support.
Making a character for Court of Blades, a Forged in the Dark game of court intrigue and romance. I'm excited to have an opportunity to trot out one of my favorite character archetypes, which is also highly situational: "spy who spends so much time being other people they don't remember who they are."
