I hate to admit this but I was curious about whether millionaires’ Rolex watches might be recovered intact in the (not intact) carbon fibre wreckage. I asked my son who is a materials engineer & watch nerd & learned some things: 1. Rolex diving watches r designed for 300 metres but at 3800 metres might still be intact but not functional.
2. Some diving watches (other brand) are designed to function at 2000 metres!! They r filled with oil to prevent the glass from fogging. oil doesn’t compress like air so can withstand ridiculously high pressures. The steel is designed to flex so the pressure can equalise. They are quartz watches tho and at titanic depths the batteries would implode. Maybe watch manufacturers should be consulted when designing #submarines #titan #rolex #divingwatch
