"Yer not wrong Narelle!"
Old Aus comedy ref - 1970's.

I found an old elec bill from my supplier (that used to be a state owned company and was divided into 4 separate companies 'for our benefit' about 20 years ago).

The price per units used had only increased from 24.1c to 26.6c in 5 YEARS!!

BUT the daily 'supply charge' went from 44.2c/day to 95.9c, a 115% increase?

How can the same energy cost 2x's as much to deliver to my home than it did 5 years ago??

The best possible solution to the energy price situation in Australia is to abolish the retailers, metering providers, and meter data providers.

Consumers have been sold the idea that breaking up the electricity network into tiny chunks will result in lower prices for everyone. Instead, means that each company in these completely artificial industries is extracting the most possible "value" (ie revenue) from customers for this. There is no meaningful competition in the space, and none of this has resulted in lower prices for consumers.

The energy network is a natural , and as an service, it is best that it be owned by the public.

According to this ABC article, lower-income households are paying 12% or more of their income into energy bills, which is a ridiculously high amount just to keep the lights on and the temperature liveable.
