25 Aug 1778 a letter was written by a lawyer named George Reed, agreeing to defend Lofland in his treason case, for $500.00, but reserved the right to deny representation in 'his other case, due to personal concerns and issues.'
Considering he remarried in 1788, his first wife having died in 1781, it appears that he was either acquitted or pardoned.
He died in 1792.
When you discover that you share the exact same Mayflower ancestors with your brother in law, making him a very, very distant cousin.
His 10th great grandmother is my 11th great grandmother, via our Snow and Hopkins lines.
Scanned and uploaded 140+ family photos to the laptop.
Now to go through, edit for sharpness, reorient and label them. Then attach select ones to the family tree.

I’ve been sharing my family research for free since 2010. However, this hobby isn’t cheap. There are costs associated with operating Graham Ancestry, and those costs get more expensive every year. #genealogy #familyresearch

Mark is in New Jersey, visiting with his dad.
They're visiting family at the cemetery and he's sending me photos of headstones, which makes me happy. Gives me definite names and dates to research to find out what happened with them.
This person is simultaneously relayed to me and at the same time, not.
Via the adopted line, they are my 7th cousin. But adopted is not blood related.
If I follow their maternal line, they are related to me via the 6th greatgrandfather of the husband of my 3rd cousin 3x removed. Which, still, is not blood related, according to Ancestry.
Need to check a 3rd surname I found. Maybe the blood connection is there.

The Five Tribes Commission lodged a protest against the US Court for the Southern District's overturning of their rejection.
Apparently, this was not the first time the US Court had over ruled their sovereign rights and forced them to accept people they *knew* were not NA as citizens.
The cynical side of me thinks it was likely so they could claim more land for us white people.
Doing more #FamilyResearch, & this guy is a contradiction.
He fought on the side of the Confederacy, was a member of the 'United Confederate Veterans', granted a Confederate pension from Oklahoma, & yet in 1906, applied to the Five Tribes Commission, claiming to be descended from the Cherokee.
His application was denied, so he appealed to the US Court, & it was then granted.
If true, the descent is from his father, as I'm descended from his mother's line & there is absolutely no NA in my DNA.
An interesting exercise,
Found a 6th cousin, was looking through their media & photos, & noticed an interesting name.
Thought, 'wait, are they claiming we're related to William Brewster of Mayflower fame?'
20 min later, lo, yes, in a round about way, I am.
He is the 8th ggrandfather, via his son, Love, of my 3rd cousin 3x removed, via her husband, their granddaughter is my 6th cousin.
Yeah, it's weird.

It's nice how family research sometimes just works by asking people. I mean, not just by asking people in your family (which is also super good and a very important source of information!), but also by writing emails to archives or so. Sometimes nothing will come around, but at other times, you'll get in touch with a super helpful person who is happy to look up stuff for you. ❤️
This is fun.
I have a 6th Cousin who, technically is my 6th cousin *twice*.
My 4th great grandfather's brother (my 4th great grand uncle) married my 4th great grandmother's sister (my 4th great grandaunt). I can follow either line down.
Granted, this happened a lot, but this is the first I've found it so close, usually it's back in the 7th or 8th generation.

Sheesh.
If I ever wanted to join the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution, I don't, never have), I have at least a dozen ancestors to chose from, as well as my maternal grandmother being a member herself.
Found a 4th cousin 2x removed who apparently is a high ranking member & wow, is there a lot of information on my ancestors in her tree.
And geez, are these lines so very intertwined across several generations/ lineages.
