Sometimes it’s not the thoughtfully curated, chef-created goodie that hits the spot. Sometimes it’s a fishfinger sandwich (butter, mayo, salt) that your friend’s kid makes for you that makes your heart skip a beat and your tastebuds dance. Best served at the table you used to sit with her on your knee, feeding her, playing with her and telling her stories.

I knew this slow-cooked beef shank #stew would be good, but it’s even better than I dreamed.
Cheap-ass bone-in beef shank. Cut into cubes, tossed in seasoned flour, browned in olive oil. Sauté chopped white onion & carrots. Throw bones in pot. Add glass or two of good red wine. Turn up the heat till it’s bubbling. Then add water or stock. Bay leaves, Sage, scapes, thyme. Turn heat down & cook for two hours. Adjust salt/pepper to taste. Devour

I used tomato and spinach sauce that was left over from pasta two days ago. Tomatoes were canned last summer. Freaking astounding flavour!!
Tossed into a skillet, warmed up. Then cracked in two eggs and smooshed the hot tomatoes on top & then coveted for two minutes. Then… done!! Bloody delicious. Give it a go!

Tastes astounding tho: roasted purple cauliflower & onions, garlic. Fried fenugreek, Garam masala, ginger. 1L veg stock. Blended till velvety.

Snowy mornings demand comforting starts. I was curious to see if I could make oat milk. Blend oats with water: what’s so hard about that? First time I made a slimy undrinkable paste. Turns out you don’t want to blend em more than 10 seconds.
So: blend one date & 750ml water. Then soak handful cashews for an hour in warm water. Drain & rinse, then add & blend. THEN add cup oats & blend. Ghostroaster espresso + Raw cacao = perfect #mocha #food #coffee #travelwriter #foodwriter #twittermigration
