This is different in effect from portfolio investment, which is often lost on casual commentators - FDI has direct (and often positive) #economic effects

Portfolio investment is when an investor buys #shares in a firm (#corporation) as part of a range of investments (hence 'portfolio'); here the investor is (usually) driven by financial metrics & will likely be footloose ; happy to sell if a quick profit can be made on a rising share price or to avoid (further) loses
