Is it possible that too much #gamification is bad for mental health?

I've been slowly been removing experiences that seem to leave me with #anxiety. Over the last year I've stopped playing #freemium mobile games.

At the beginning of the week I stopped my daily #Duolingo lessons. I purposefully broke my #streak. By Wednesday I was less anxious, but agree that it may just be coincidental.

Overall, Duolingo is a net positive experience, so how do I start up again without overdoing it?

My gut feeling is that closing web has been in preparation since private companies make their software OSS to lure as many users as possible with #freemium model. If there isn't possible userbase to exploit on the planet anymore, why would you keep your service open for all at your expense?

Why #rs3 is #freemium while #Albion isn't?

One of the things to look at is that when you are #FreeToPlay in Runescape3 / #OSRS you can't access some stuff, like ie. a lot of the quests, you can't access some areas, some areas locked by skills you can't train due to them being locked to members.

I don't find this decision bad. I see something really good that Albion could learn from its sibling.

Albion doesn't have a unified trading system like rs does.

Your article says #freemium in the title, but in the text you refer to a free trial. That's not the same thing.

Freemium refers to an existance of free option for basic features - indefinitely, with an option to upgrade to premium.

Genuine question for #developers: is there any money in consumer facing software development for #linux - outside of corporate sponsors and community donations? Have any #freemium models worked for devs in terms of payment?
