Besides that, recognizable slug names can help. #Fredericksburg could be a lot of places, but #FXBG is in Virginia. People also append VA to hashtags to disambiguate as necessary anyway because this is a shortcoming intrinsic to hashtags.

Is Fredericksburg (#FXBG) part of northern #Virginia? Yes, because saying so clearly pisses off a certain set of very online people who are finding pride in living in a place that is, quite frankly, unbearable.
