Please send encouragement for me to resume working on my blind-friendly music game. I tried to carry over the energy from the #GamesForBlindGamers jam, but I hit a snag and lost my momentum, and there's no external pressure/impetus/accountability like there was during the jam, so I've been neglecting it. I really want to finish it, but getting back in the saddle is tough. 😮💨
Absolutely floored by the #GamesForBlindGamers community. We now have a budding community of contributors looking at supporting blind-friendly games year round, mini-jams to explore tech and ideas, a list of blind-friendly game makers, and much more!

My new free game Ear Hacker is available! It's a cyberpunk hacking game that tests your aural training and rhythm skills! Sight not required! https://jcroisant.itch.io/ear-hacker-jam
This is my entry for the #GamesForBlindGamers 2 game jam. There are more features I plan to add and bugs to fix, but I'm very proud of what I accomplished in two weeks. Did I... actually make something kinda good??? :blobcataww:
Please give the game a try (mind the known issues list), share and boost, and rate it for the jam if you have an itch.io account. :blobcatheart: :boost_ok:

So it turns out that *today* is actually the final day of #GamesForBlindGamers jam, there was a mixup setting the deadline clock. It's a relief to get an extra 24 hours to finish things up, but OTOH that means another 24 hours of me neglecting the rest of my life. 😅 Anyway, I'm using the extra time to polish the game, and maybe put back in a few small features I cut.
I'm quite happy with how the game is turning out! No new screenshots because it looks almost exactly the same as before, but it *sounds* a lot better, which is the point. 🎶
My #accessible text-game, Hybrid, is now available on Itch, as part of the #GamesForBlindGamers jam.
It's definitely a #roguelike/#rougelite, kinda MUDish, and honestly kind of fun! But difficult (especially without healing skills) and short. Hopefully someone out there likes it, I spent hours balancing and another hour writing an epic story 😅
Play it here: https://deengames.itch.io/hybrid

The #GamesForBlindGamers jam deadline has been extended 24 hours! They had set it to the wrong day. 😅 Now I have time to un-murder some of my children! :blobcataww: But only the children I really loved. Mweh-heh-heh! :BlobCat_Knife:
It's the final day of the #GamesForBlindGamers game jam! My entry is coming along pretty well, I will definitely have something finished (for some definition of "finished"). I'm cutting features left and right, even features that are 80% done but I don't have time to get it to a point where adding it would make the game better than leaving it out.
Rhythm puzzles? I'd have to compensate for audio latency... cut it! Time limits to increase excitement? I'd have to playtest and tune the difficulty... cut it!
Cut, cut, cut! None of you are free of sin! :BlobCat_Knife:
I can't believe it turned out well. That it is exactly the same model. #GamesForBlindGamers
Cover art for my #GamesForBlindGamers jam. It's there to attract sighted players. How does it feel to you?
(Yes, it was kinda rushed.)

Wasted a few hours yesterday futzing around with #synthesizer programs to generate instrument sounds for the game. The programs are all so complicated and arcane, and their UIs are so tiny and use weird fonts, so I practically have to press my nose against the screen to read them. I finally gave up and made some sounds in #pico8 and Audacity in 10 minutes.
I need to stop futzing. Enough with the futzing already! There's no time to futz! There's only 3 days left in the #GamesForBlindGamers #GameJam! Just do things the quick and easy way! (I'm panicking a little. Can you tell I'm panicking a little??? :blobpanic:)

#GamesForBlindGamers entry update: you can now fight (melee) battles. They go by blinding fast (like MUD battles) and mostly depend on pre-battle setup (not depicted here). No skills yet, just victory or defeat.
#gamesforblindgamers #hybrid #gamedev #accessibility #a11y
#GamesForBlindGamers text game update: you can now see monsters, and navigate from room to room. You can find the "stairs" down to the next level (not depicted). All that's missing is the core battles.

Some last-minute submissions for #ScreenshotSaturday. The first ever screenshots of Ear Hackers, my work-in-progress entry for the #GamesForBlindGamers 2 #GameJam! Made in #GodotEngine.
Today's task was the custom UI theme, which are the only graphics planned for the game. The cool cyberpunk font is Potra by Alejo Bergmann. The game is mainly meant to be played using a computer keyboard or gamepad, but I think I can make it playable on touchscreens too if the buttons are big and stay in a consistent place. 🤔

Progress so far on my #GamesForBlindGamers jam game. This is the eigth or ninth prototype, which is a text game.
This is the sum total of gameplay (story, skills, skill selection - not depicted here - and dungeon floor list).

Trying to regain my momentum and revive my motivation to continue working on my entry for the #GamesForBlindGamers 2 jam. 😞 The past few days I've been ill and tired, and stressed from tax forms, so I haven't gotten much done. Now I feel like I have lost too much time and won't be able to finish anything interesting or fun.
Which is not true! There are still 10 days left, and people make cool things for game jams where the whole event is shorter than that! Probably I will have to cut even more features, but it can still be cool. And even if it's not cool I should finish it just so I can feel good about finishing something instead of giving up! 😤
Day 13 of the #GamesForBlindGamers 2 #GameJam and I still have barely written any code. 😅😅😅 But! I have learned a lot about music theory, and I have been working obsessively the past two days on a design document! :blobclipboard: The process of writing it has been extremely useful in clarifying and streamlining the game: what features are essential now, how to make things easier to implement, how all the parts will fit together, what ideas are too complicated or confusing or boring or derivative, etc. — while it's still easy to change. I'm glad the jam is long enough that I can take the time to do this before jumping into coding, I think it will be worth it. Maybe I should get around to actually implementing it sometime, though... 🙃
