Are we looking at potentially a good bunch of sweet peppers? Looking forward to it.

Lovely Echium Candicans blooming their heads off in Massion Bay Commons, San Francisco. All that rain is going to make a spectacular Spring!#gardeningcommunity
Celebrating the unexpected survival of Salvia guarantiaca Black and Blue, which is coming back after having been trampled by a neighbor's escaped hog. Yes, I've got to make sure the fence gets tightened up around the garden!

Old clusters of agaves had survived and multiplied in the untended garden over the years. I'm incorporating them into the new plantings as I go along.

Good planting weather! One rose bush Archduke Charles, a small pot of Greek oregano, and dwarf agapanthus Peter Pan all went into the ground this morning. Now they are being watered in by the rain. 💙

Its reputation for beautiful winter blooms was one reason I decided to plant the old tea rose Safrano. It's beginning to come along nicely. After all, it was a major florists' variety in the nineteenth century.

After two weeks of debilitating joint pain, and thanks to the frankly AMAZING prescription pain blocker meds my doctor prescribed to me the other day (pending the battery of tests I have to take after Christmas) I was finally able to hobble outside and take a look at the garden.
This post about my fairy plant godmother's section of the garden is loooong overdue. 😁

Here's a bud from the old tea rose Safrano. With our chilly nights, it's holding on a long time before opening! Lovely colors in both bud and new foliage.

@JohnAltringham I absolutely do this, including keeping the flower seed heads on the stalks. That’s food for the feathered folx who overwinter in Chicago. #GardeningCommunity #BirdFriends #autumn

Not many flowers left in the garden now after a couple of nights of overnight temperatures of 2 degrees. The calendula has always been a great one over winter (in a sheltered spot), but when this nasturtium flower has been there for 3 days now and still looking fresh and perky.

There's not much to show for planting the daffodils today, so here are leaves of dwarf iris Pixie Power, adjacent to one clump of newly dug-in daffs.😊
I thought this bout of nighttime temps just above freezing might be the best time to plop them in.
They're a selection of antique varieties, so I'm on new ground now: Conspicuus, Minor Monarque, Scarlet Gem, White Lady, and tiny N moschatus. Fingers crossed they'll like it here!

The first year I had my raised garden bed, I planted four broccoli plants to try. This is year four & I’m up to twenty-four broccoli plants in my winter garden now. It is possible that I over did it a little, but anyone who has had freshly cut broccoli understands it’s so incredible. And I was taught growing up to always plant more than I need so I can share with my neighbors. #GardeningCommunity #gardening

I may might have overdone it on the broccoli this year… #gardening #GardeningCommunity
