Whether or not you would agree with Lincoln (especially concerning the Dakota War history.com/news/abraham-linco), we might be in a better place as a nation if more politically inclined folks were "dedicated ... to the unfinished work which [the soldiers who] fought [at Gettysburg] have thus far so nobly advanced."

159 years ago yesterday, Abraham Lincoln spoke 272 words over the course of about 2-3 minutes and changed American history forever. To put it in perspective, the man who spoke before him, Edward Everett, spoke for over 2 hours. Sometimes the power of brevity rises above everything else.
