I’ve seen this one blooming for months now. It’s located on a busy road and gets it’s fair share of appreciative observers, I guarantee it!

The flowers on are about 0.5 cm in diameter (the pink petal-like structures are not petals, but they’re known as ‘bracts’.

See pic 4, which is from another tree, featured previously, for a close up detail of the flower and bracts.

Honestly, is the gift that keeps on giving!

is a species of flowering plant in the family Alstroemeriaceae, native to Peru, northwest Argentina and central Chile.

is gorgeous when looked after in a garden and controlled.

Otherwise, it can become an invasive weed in places outside its natural distribution, for example as a garden escape throughout temperate southern Australia.

Most can look a little unkempt / scraggly but this one in is superb!

For such a small tree, this (pictured 5 mins ago) in has some impressive bloom.

It’s endemic to the SW of Western Australia. Though is one of the most commonly planted ornamental eucalypts in warmer regions throughout Oz!

It goes by other unofficial names by looks. If so, it’s native to both China and Japan.

These are (turning) deep red in many gardens in these early stages of autumn in Melbs.

This is a of some sort… apparently there are around 50 different species in the world and this one is living its best ‘indoor’ life at @Witchy_Minx’s place in Melbs - thanks for the pic M!

This flower is the size of a 10 cent / pence piece and is its only bloom atm.

The other flower died off a week ago. Meagre offerings, but better than nothing!! The orange is striking.

But I’m sure with its owners trusty green thumb, we’ll see a few more flowers in coming weeks!

Walking towards this beauty from a distance, I was convinced it was an abundant flowering crepe myrtle or some exotic flower coverage I’ve never seen before. See pic 1.

Sun was low and shining in my eyes on approach. I was intrigued.

It only became clear, crossing the shaded road with a clear view, it was not a flowering tree… there was nothing but two toned leaves!

I know someone will know what this gorgeous leafy-stunner is, because my ID app gave up the ghost after having a conniption!! Just refused to identify it 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

And Google lens suggested it could be one of a dozen varieties (families) such as , , (aka ) and even !

I’ve marvelled at these modest sized trees in the past, with their unique colours / shaped leaves. But have never gone to the trouble to identify their family name, let alone their genus or species.

Any ideas??

How delicate, yet paradoxically robust are these , huh?

’s are being treated to a long flowering season this year!

Pics were taken in Brighton earlier in the week in a public garden, .

I love the subtle pinks that feature throughout the petals, on these otherwise predominantly white flowers.

They smelt fresh and aromatic. A typical subtle rose scent that takes me back to my childhood.

Just gorgeous!

, the crown of thorns, Christ plant, or Christ thorn, is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family Euphorbiaceae, native to Madagascar.

The oranges here on this one are vibrant and abundant. It is commonly used as an ornamental houseplant that is best grown in warmer climates.

This beauty was snapped at night following a warm day. It held up well despite the sweltering conditions endured throughout this day. Although pic 3 indicates it could do with a drink.

These two coloured ones are no exception, in .

Theyre flowering shrubs in the genus Rhododendron and bloom in the spring (April and May in the temperate Northern Hemisphere, and October and November in the Southern Hemisphere).

Their flowers often last several weeks. In this case, much longer. Shade tolerant, they prefer living near or under trees, as these are. The street-lined tree canopies in this suburb are legendary.

Pelargonium - aka , is native to southern Africa in the western regions of the Cape Provinces.

The owners of the property where this one is growing were heading out to walk their puppies. They were telling me they planted these in nothing but scoria (volcanic rock) in the front of their fence adjoining the footpath and they took like nothing else this summer / autumn.

A friend of theirs took cuttings from this lot and the woman said her friend’s geraniums were going gang busters in the back yard not far away, twice the abundance of what we see here!

So hearty and visually appealing, especially in deep red!

Now these ARE super intriguing!

Can’t recall coming across this before.

They’re called , commonly known as balloonplant, balloon cotton-bush, bishop's balls, nailhead, or swan plant, yes - and hairy balls!

It is a species of dogbane. The plant is native to southeast Africa, and is often used as an ornamental plant.

The spikes on these balloon type growths are coarse and prickly. A little sharp. And the balloon itself is firm but giving when pressed with a little pressure. But does not rebound back. So I guess the contents is mostly hollow and not greatly ‘inflated’ as such.

This is a perennial herb traditionally used to produce ointments for the treatment of warts and the seeds are used in rituals. The leaves and stems produce milky latex that is toxic.

Gomphocarpus is nutritious food for caterpillars and some species of butterfly. 🐛🦋
