Starting to see a theme here. I like the funny.
This one is a team up between Batman and Plastic Man.
You'd think a pairing like this would show you a different side of Batman. I think instead it gives Plastic Man more depth than I thought he had.

Big fan of Blue Falcon when I was a kid.
After reading this I would have loved to read an in DC series about Blue Falcon.
Alas. This is all we got.

Great single issue comics:
This is part of the Forever Evil event, but just barely.
I'm not a big fan of Aquaman, but this issue made me want to read a bunch more about Ocean Master existing in a world without heroes.
The comic ends with a tag to read more about Ocean Master in the Forever Evil event. But he doesn't turn up there as far as I remember.

Gail Simone is just an awesome writer.
This issue follows her characterization of Bane and Catman in the wake of one of Batman's death. Various characters are trying to fill the void created by Batman's absence.

Great single issue comics:
This is like an epilogue to The Killing Joke. Maybe it's a response to the statement Joke makes and also a commentary on the brutal episodic violence in Joke.
Odd in a series that is pretty f-ing brutal in itself.

Great single issue comics:
Buck Wild is an analog for 70s and 80s Power Man and this issue is his funeral. It’s also meta commentary by a black writer in the 90s looking back at black characters in comics in the 70s. I guess The Other History of the DC Universe would be a similar concept from now.
I wish Dwayne McDuffie was still around. Icon is one of my favorite characters. And great costume design.

I think this is the greatest non-Superman Superman story told in a single regular sized issue.
I read this and it made Hyperion one of my favorite characters.

Mr. Mxyzptlk runs into a parody of the Legion of Superheroes. The background characters have a number of stupid powers, many of them eating-based, taking shots at Matter Eater Lad - like Button Eater Lad, Batter Eater Lad, Butter Eater Lad, etc.
The main villain shows up and they all yell out they will eat a specific item to stop her. One yells out “Where’s her butler!?” It makes me smile every time I think of it.

Some of my favorite regular size single issue comics.
In X-Men 245 they take a break from the sorrow of being mutants and get a little silly.
It's a parody of DC's Invasion series.
Highlight: minor alien finds out about the super beings on Earth, including the host of the Phoenix Force, and Earth has stopped multiple alien invasions; tries unsuccessfully to make the case that attacking Earth is a bad idea.

Here are some of my favorite stand-alone issues of comic books. In this one Dr. Strange shows up at a family home.
I like this story. It gives you an idea of what it’s like to be an everyday person in the Marvel Universe. Like suddenly this guy in a weird costume shows up at your house, does a bunch of hand gestures, fights a monster and leaves and you’re supposed to go to work the next day and give a presentation.
