Ah that's sad news today - the gravestone-encircled ‘Hardy Tree’ falls, in London.
The tree became a powerful symbol of life among death after the novelist and poet stacked gravestones around its base in the 1860s
I used to cycle past it every day on my way to work, and walked around it a few times

Sad to hear that the Hardy Tree in London has met its demise. Tombstones were arranged around the trunk by a young Thomas Hardy, who was in charge of reburying the occupants of a cemetery during the building of the railways. Such a peaceful little spot so close to one of the busiest transport hubs in the city. #london #HardyTree #RIP
