I’ve said before, if Bobby made a bad record, I haven’t heard it.
This one marks the vibraphonist’s second recording with saxophonist #HaroldLand (the first was Land’s 1968 album The Peace-Maker). The two would become regular collaborators through the mid-70s.
Rounding out the lineup is Chick Corea on piano, Reggie Johnson on bass, and Joe Chambers on drums.

This is a very cool record from Bobby Hutcherson. However, this particular release (or pressing?) is pretty bad. Very murky sounding, and this copy arrived with a scratch. A rare sonic flub by Blue Note.

Alas, yes! Not in my house, ever since I've heard "Land's End" as a teenager. Love his gritty tone! Took me longer to wrap my mind around his Coltrane-influenced later playing - but most notably the albums with Bobby Hutcherson have long been favorites now, as well! Also his Mainstream albums ... and a recent discovery here, his final (?) one, "Promised Land" (rec. 2000 w/Mulgrew Miller, Ray Drummond and Billy Higgins).

Something funky to get the lead out today. A great collaboration between the vibraphonist and tenor sax man. Sure it leans away from hard-bop and into fusion, but I’m ok with that.
Looks like Blue Note is giving this title the Classic Reissue treatment next month. 👍
