@theneurotrust crucial conversation indeed!
Just recently listened to Cara Page on ... Some notes and emerging thoughts:

- Not all healers are political but I bet true healing is.

- Asuming one self a healer is different to finding pieces of collective health within me

- collective memory and mediation by other languages confirms once and again to be strategic, so the individual painful narratives turn into deep treasure searching and other metaphores...

- when certain metaphores build ?

- How to walk together thru the broken twigs of deep shared losses? How to build bridges collaborativelly for not falling into power unballances?

travaille aux intersections de la justice raciale, économique, de genre, du handicap et environnementale pour aider les communautés marginalisées à ré-imaginer et à repenser les soins de santé et la guérison pour notre époque.

@markhenick
As a mental health professional, this is in my wheelhouse. I discovered Vikram Patel, Sangath, and Friendship Benches around the same time as I was training for my Peer Specialist career. In 2017, I had a option to intern with the NYC Thrive 'friendship benches' but other people in my class got it. The US is part of the great colonizers for Western Bio-medical psychiatry. The world doesn't need more colonization. I think the community MH model is correct for many reasons. The article mentions the Community MH act on 1963 and sort of leaves out the fact that it never got funding for the community mental health part. This issue is the same today. No one wants to invest in MH. Or they only want to invest in the neoliberal part of they think of as cost-effective. And the carceral part. And that is racist. No one talks about how the current paradigms is racist or eugenicist. And not even effective. The whole focus in the article on psychiatry is a mistake but that's to be expected because of the West's influence. Or at least they should call it biopsyciatry because before pills, it was more about phenomenology. What they really meant to say is that they want to 'fix' people's 'brain diseases' by getting highly paid people to give them pills. It would benefit the global supply chain of Big Pharma. But they neglect to say how fracking expensive that would be. And that not even the West is going to shell out for that, let alone foisting it on the global south who is dirt poor. What is called 'Mental health" is more than brains. People deal with distress because of environmental factors (ACE, systems of oppression, lack of affordable housing, food, medical care). That is 'mental health care'. Or consider Johan Hari's "Anti-depressent Cow" story-- a poor man had life difficulties and became depressed and stopped farming. Someone gave him a cow to continue farming and he was no longer depressed.

"The term refers to an evolving political framework shaped by economic, racial, and disability justice that seeks to transform, intervene and respond to generational trauma and violence in our movements, communities and lives; and to regenerate our traditions of liberatory and resiliency practices that have been lost or stolen.

Healing Justice recognizes the role of collective trauma (such as the shared experience of slavery or genocide or ableism) and historical trauma (the holding and passing down of collective trauma from one generation to the next) as causing or influencing community survival practices and endemic community health issues, and seeks to lift up these experiences for the possibility of resilience and transformation.

Healing Justice also recognizes the role of individual and relational trauma and its impact on collective process."

practice, and history in more depth will be found at

What opportunities can be gained from building a community of practice centered around within the ?

What kinds of risks should we be aware of when in a virtual environment like Mastodon?

What kind of resources will we need to create a safe container for folks engaging in any organizing in the ?

For context, here is an excerpt from describing what we'd like to create here

What is a Practice Space?

"A Healing Justice Practice Space (HJPS) is an all-gender, allbodied, inclusive and accessible space for practicing and receiving healing that is built in partnership with social justice movement work and sites of political action.

These spaces typically offer a wide variety of health and healing services, including (but not limited to) first aid, counseling and crisis support, mediation services, massage therapy, acupuncture, energy work, herbal therapy, divination, art therapy, nutritional counseling, and yoga.

Sometimes they are aligned with public healthcare systems and sometimes they are independent.

Sometimes they include opportunities for building analysis and sharing political education, sometimes they focus solely on individual and collective healing."

as someone from the disability and mad movement, I have come to understand the difference between and . the former is about legal battles to force our humanity into the public space and demand some basic recognition. But the ADA is toothless as written, so we need lawyers to get anything material to happen (curb cuts, busses with wheelchair lifts, extended time on tests). The latter is holistic. It's about creating a society where we are seen as equals and our presence is expected. is a very complex topic. It has so many moving parts. It's healing me, it's healing you, its about creating community, accountability, rupture, and reconciliation. It requires people to facilitate safer healing spaces. It requires emotional labor to recognize oppression in many guises.

Would something like this work to help us get started?
docs.google.com/document/d/1Vx

Also, my capacity will be a bit limited once the next semester starts, so I've reached out to and to see if they can recommend someone with the capacity to moderate and/or coordinate virtual programming.

I agree that its important to include many more voices around this topic and it would be nice to work with folks who have experience doing virtual around

I'm wondering whether it would be helpful to reach out to @schock

I'm wondering whether they can provide any insights about how the network worked together to structure, -build and facilitate their movement at the

I might also reach out to who has an organization on IG to get a sense of what work and conversations already exists around the topic of

@meoutloud In answer to your question about what it means to practice in our lives.

I think both individually and collectively we have to build the skillset of and building a safe, healthy container where we can hold space to build our so that we can attend to our and respond in a way that makes us feel seen and heard

I'm know I'm going to have to provide definitions of the terms that I hash-tagged, but I look forward to discussing the topic further
