Hermeto Pascoal night two - this time at LPR in Manhattan. Just as amazing as last night, with even more energy. LPR really packs 'em in, and the large and enthusiastic audience crammed right up to the stage clearly gave Hermeto and the band some extra juice. Hermeto was on his feet and playing for 75% of the set, in total control of the action. The show (and the tour) ended with Hermeto giving handwritten sheet music to all the kids in attendance. A perfect finish.

Hermeto Pascoal was absolutely astounding at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn tonight. At 86 years old, age is still no obstacle for the great pianist, composer and bandleader. His group was tight and agile, handling his intricate compositions with ease. Hermeto's solos on keys are still strong, and he also played percussion, melodica and an unusual wind instrument. At times he watched over the band like a proud grandfather, but each time he stepped up to solo he stole the show!
