Went down a rabbit hole today (oh dear, it’s so terribly easy to get sidetracked!) and looked at more information trying to date this photo from the family Bible. The stamp on the back was “W. Thwaites. jun., Photographer.” Using I found advertisements and tracked W. Thwaites movements, and helped nail down the date and probable location the photo was taken. Use every clue, eh?

Thwaites quite a fascinating character himself!

Arvo, Toots! I’m still feeling grumbly, so instead, let’s have some more fun. This lovely silhouette is my Dad, c.1952, and was made by a famous travelling silhouette artist artist, S. John Ross, using scissors, in about 45 seconds, at the show.

Arvo, Toots! Cool one here today, and somewhat breezy. Today’s photo is another from my : this shows the last remaining ruin at in , built by my Great Great Great Grandfather, in 1910. Dad recently told me this was an “American style” kiln, and was only efficient when the wind blew from a certain direction.

“Peter The Chinaman”, or Chow Ten, was well known for his hospitality and kindness. He later lost everything in a fire, but was helped by his neighbours. Article link is here: nla.gov.au/nla.news-article101.

I was thrilled when funding was announced to keep going. Yesterday I was following up a story in my about my Great Great Grandmother, Eliza Cooper, who was (rather sensationally) lost in the bush near for a week in late December, 1884, with a 6 year old son, and a 6 month old baby, who didn’t survive. The report is here, with some disturbing details: nla.gov.au/nla.news-article208
