THE BLOB

This B-movie classic shows us the dangers of being attacked by the world's largest serving of cherry pie filling.
There's nothing particularly scary about any of this, though you can't help but smile at everything you see on screen.
Movies were 80 cents a ticket. Wow.
This is the whitest movie town I have ever seen. I thought I saw a black person during the scene where everyone runs out of the theater but I couldn't be sure. Maybe that was Mayor Goldie Wilson's aunt or something.

PEEPING TOM

One of the best ever made. Gets under your skin using genuine tension instead of cheap jump scares.
Though seen from today's lens "Mark Lewis" is too overtly creepy that we would instinctively shy away or if we saw him on the street we'd assume he has a woman tied up in a freezer somewhere.

GHOST SHIP

The ship itself looks absolutely fantastic. The viewer is entranced with it enough that he/she realizes there's not much about this movie that's actually frightening.
With a twist that anyone can see coming, in the end I wanted to like this movie more than I actually did. There are enough elements to have made a passable scary movie, but as you barely remember what you've just seen you wish it had some scares to keep this ship afloat.

EVIL DEAD RISE

Though this 5th entry of the Evil Dead franchise doesn't rise to the anarchic levels of the originals (but were you really expecting it to?), there's still a lot of bloody fun to be had.
It does take until the midpoint to get going, but when it does Rise rarely lets up.
The biggest hurdle in being the 5th is that most of the audience is way ahead of the characters. We know what they're up against so we're twiddling soon-to-be-dismembered thumbs for some Latin to be read.
The sister dynamic is well rendered in only a few scenes. You learn enough about Beth and Ellie to really feel a loss when...you know.
Ted Raimi played that Henrietta's Pizza pizza box.

A movie so bad you have to watch it just to see Best Worst .
Fails on just about every level of filmmaking, but there's a reason it's still in people's consciousness almost 30 years later when most movies of its type go to the Blockbuster in the sky.
Someone actually thought and wrote, "You know what would make this scene better? Corn as a sex toy!"
I did the math and checked a dictionary. "Nilbog" is "Goblin" spelled backwards...and it didn't take me 45 minutes of screentime to figure it out.

PSYCHO II

One of my favorite sequels ever.

Does it hold a candle to the original? Of course not, but it's better than we had a right to expect considering the first Psycho's pedigree.
Tom Holland's script is the real star here, with enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes, even in the shower. Some of the twists are ludicrous, but in the moment they work completely.
Meg Tilly is used very well, you'd never know some shots of her character were her sister Frank Tilly.
Excellent use of peanut butter.
Even better use of a shovel.
Had he been alive, Hitchcock would have liked this. Or not. Doesn't matter, he's dead.
