I was excited that #iNaturalist and #NYCEcoFlora had a quest this month to nominate an official #NYCWildflower … but the candidate species for the month of May I think are poor — only one is flowering now, and its rare in wild areas.
If it were me, I’d nominate the #jewelweed / touch-me-not as the official #NYC #Wildflower. Gorgeous orange or yellow all summer… a wild-remedy for poison ivy & skin rashes. Beautiful and plentiful in wild areas.

#jewelweed or #touchmenot I am not sure why, but folks here treat this plant as annoying weed. Do not cut it! Great for itching and loved by bees. It is so pretty and needs no care. (Also super fun playing with the exploding pods.)
